Italy – November 2024 – Day 5, Venice

After tackling Rome, we made a similar one-day train trip to Venice the next day.

The train ride was slightly longer than the trip to Venice. We decided not to book any tours – or even our return ticket – so we could play it by ear as we explored and head back to Florence when we were ready. I tried downloading a few walking tours to my phone with mixed results.

The train depot deposited us right at the Grand Canal and across from San Simeone Piccolo. It’s a great sight to start the day. We started walking along the canal, trying to eventually reach the Rialto Bridge. We were able to just explore through the narrow streets. The paths were never empty, but never crowded either. We passed the windows of so many shops – restaurants, glass, leather. There was plenty to distract us along our path.

We took plenty of photos as we saw the Venice Operahouse, St Mark’s, and the Doge’s Palace. By the time we ended at St. Mark’s we had walked over six miles and decided to take the water bus back to the train station.
